I have watched it three times already and each time, I see new little nuances that the writer and actors put into the film to really drive home the point that we are all susceptible as a society to being duped by those in power to donor say things that we wouldn’t do or say normally and we have to each be vigilant about loving our neighbors as ourselves. It is a ten year old boys view on the war, and relationships, as he is engulfed into the Nazi Youth movement with his imaginary “best friend” Adolf Hitler ! There’s some darkness to its tale to make the sting of war reasonably deep as well as simple moments of warmth between Johansson and Griffin. Jo Jo is branded a coward but moves towards redemption through a beautifully drawn and unexpected relationship and a brutal act, no child should experience. Jojo Rabbit. The best bit is the start and the linking of Hitler with other mass hysteria with pop acts. Jojo Rabbit is a 2019 American dark comedy drama film directed by Taika Waititi. Created with Sketch. Other than that, things are great.
Nothing else made me smile, let along laugh. The over-rated director claims this "a new way of telling the story of WWII to a young audience". Cleverly the film reveals to you that just as the German prejudice may have been that all Jews were evil there may be a residual prejudice that all Germans were just a bad as Hitler. The story that unfolds may initially also seem quite familiar in covering the Jewish persecution message in a fairly standard way, albeit still mixed with the quirky comedy. The acting is decent and the jokes are dark but fitting with Taika's style. The most hilarious thing here is imaginary friend Hitler having a New Zealand accent. WHAT ROT! While this picture doesn’t quite pack the big bite, merely showcasing the easy jokes to make out the ignorance born from Hitler’s influence, it does well enough staging a whimsical romance and a telling tale of how powerful imagination can be. He’ll still fall in line to make uninformed statements about Jews and draw himself up a ridiculous outfit to wear into combat. The trailer for this film looked quirky and funny and certainly the majority of this World War Two, with a German perspective, set film is comedic. It is clear that this is an anti-war, anti-prejudice satire. Throughout this film is an uncomfortable watch; at one time ludicrously funny and then horrifically sad. So idolized is Hitler that JoJo has placed a quirky version of the leader in his mind that can deliver witty talks and encouraging pep talks. But then Jojo’s life is thrown a curveball when he discovers there’s a Jew living in his walls. Directed by Taika Waititi. So pc though so has to mention India and China (the former had people also supporting the Japanese actually). And what happens in the very last minutes of the film isn't so far fetched, Jo-Jo could have grown up to become a pop star of the early 1970s..! M VC. They struggle to keep secrets and come to emotional realizations as empathy slowly forms. Awful. Don't dismiss this film like some strange poor taste comedy, take the time to watch it and then think about what you've seen. Less funny than pilot for sitcom HEIL HONEY I'M HOME even.
From the trailer I was expecting the film to be more in the style of a bad taste but humorous Mel Brooks style satire, and it does have a trace of that. Americanese from 2020 like 'overthinking' and use of the word 'goddam' in people speaking with German (actually Austrian) accents jars too. In the later stages of World War II, Johannes "Jojo" Betzler joins the Deutsches Jungvolk. It is very funny, but does nor hide from the horrors of war and all the cast do very well with the clever script. The film thankfully favors more of this quirky childhood romance than political satire. The change in tone does really make the reality of the war starkly clear to you for the remainder of the film. And how is it that Jojo is not able to kill this girl? Unfortunately there are still many humans in the world who need to take a close look at their lives and make the decision to devote themselves to goodness for humanity. I think half the reviewers here have missed the point about this superb movie. Especially when the 10 year old shows an love interest in a girl. Frightening too. I wish I had. Ultimately, every human is free to choose to do good or bad. As are the jokes (German shepherds anyone?). My List. His first movie and he is an AMAZING talent. Jojo Rabbit has come branded in its marketing as a satire on hate. This film does grow on you and I personally consider it to be quite a special film in that it's one of the few that has had the emotional impact in certain scenes to make me cry real tears for the characters and really think about what I had just watched. A complete misfire take on childhood - not sure if the director or author of the original novel is to blame. This is based on a novel which though a best seller has very mixed reviews. you can teach your children the history they need to know and understand and maybe discuss how relevant it is for today.
